Staff Member Strikes a Student
Always check BOE policy for action steps moving forward
Make sure that Department of Health and Human Services (aka CPS) has been considered
Contact SRO or police (in absence of SRO)
Contact District Attorney
Contact and inform BOE
Conduct investigation, collect all witness statements
Contact parent(s) of student
Contact Union President of the staff member (if applicable)
Place staff member on leave, if substantiated. Ensure the staff member has administrative leave letter
Create a communication for the BOE and Admins
Create a communication to the staff of that school
Create a communication for all district parents
Prepare statement/what to say to Media
Finish investigation
Consult with District Attorney regarding what steps are next
Debrief situation with Admins.
